Listen to Jamie xx’s collaborative new single with Robyn, ‘Life’

"I just want to see how ‘Life’ gets people dancing this summer," Robyn said of the track

Jamie xx has teamed up with Robyn for his latest single – you can listen to ‘Life’ below.

The high-energy dance track is the latest preview of the DJ, producer and member of The xx‘s second solo album ‘In Waves’, which is due for release on September 20 via Young. It’ll follow on from his 2015 debut ‘In Colour’ (pre-order/pre-save here).

“I made this track pretty fast (for me) and I loved it from day one. When I first heard Robyn’s vocal it was at 6am after finishing playing at Pacha in Ibiza, it was the perfect moment,” Jamie explained in a statement.

“Robyn and I have spent time working together and hanging out for some years now, it’s always a joy and always inspiring, I’m so glad and grateful that she is a part of ‘In Waves’. Thank you, Robyn, for bringing this track to life!”

Robyn said: “I just want to see how ‘Life’ gets people dancing this summer. I can’t wait for that. Jamie is such a brilliant creator, I’m excited to be part of his album.”

In 2017, the Swedish pop artist joined The xx on stage at the O2 Academy Brixton in London to perform her hit ‘With Every Heartbeat’ with the trio.

He has also previewed the forthcoming ‘In Waves’ with the single ‘Treat Each Other Right’.

In a statement about the record, Jamie xx explained: “My new album, ‘In Waves’, will be out on September 20. I am so unbelievably happy.

“It’s been a while…  and a lot has happened in that time. Ups and downs, growing up, figuring stuff out and then forgetting it all many times over. Life changing events and world changing events. These waves that we have all experienced together and alone.”

He continued: “I wanted to make something fun, joyful and introspective all at once. The best moments on a dance floor are usually that for me. I can’t wait to share it with you.”

His bandmate Romy spoke about being back in the studio with The xx during an interview with NME in March.

“[The xx have] been in the studio since I last spoke to NME and we’re in the studio again next week, so we’re meeting up regularly,” she explained at the time. “It’s been really good. I think we’ve all spent time apart and it’s healthy to miss each other.”

Romy added: “We’re just keeping it really open and we’re up for trying new things, but it sounds like us. That’s all I can say right now.

“We’ve learned a lot from our different solo projects and it’s cool to learn from each other again. We grew up together and we had a lot of experiences, but to then have time apart and learn new skills, get new musical ideas and experiences and compare them… it’s been a healthy break.”
